My objective of finding the "first" evil clown movie led me to a strange place...

Created in the style of a 1950's propaganda video, this bizarre 45 minute film invites folks from the present to take a glimpse into a dystopian future where sadistic "Bozos" monitor our every move. On the surface of this world lies a concrete rooftop of a one hundred fifty story apartment complex that covers the entire planet. Humans sleep with different partners in different identical rooms every night. Each room is equipped with a giant eyeball that's used as a "crime prevention device".

It gets better. At first the simulated reality technology of the future (think Star Trek's holodeck) seems quite appealing. But the sinister details soon unfold. Children are restrained and brainwashed for the first twelve years of their lives to suppress any individual thought. Once they are sufficiently programmed and prepared for their duties they are "born" into a lifetime of 20 hour work days. Every day after work they are rewarded with pleasant smelling gases that "assist all in a sound sleep for four restful hours". Anyone who acts insubordinate or exhibits traces of humanity is reprimanded by a swift beatdown from a gang of clowns.

Much more than your typical political satire, Let's Visit the World of the Future is both bleak and devilishly funny. Director/interesting guy Ivan Stang went on to found the anti-religious Church of the Subgenius. His harrowing vision of a future drowning in false reality, drugs, hallucinations, repetition, mindless consumerism and lobotomies made me perfectly content to live in the present. Check out the madness here.
