Johnny Depp is close to a deal to sign on to star in Pirates of the Caribbean 5 according to Reuters.
The script for a fifth film has been written
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer said he had no plans to proceed without Depp.
At the time Depp said he'd be up for playing Captain Jack Sparrow again, but seemed interested in taking a break for a little while.
Despite the general downturn in U.S. domestic box-office, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" has become the second highest grossing film of the year with $234 million thus far, behind only The Hangover Part II with $248 million and $1 Billion Worldwide
The second film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest holds the worldwide record for the series with $1.066 billion - a figure 'Tides' will most likely pass before its theatrical run is over
